Climate and time zone
There are three distinct climate zones in Japan. Hokkaido and northern Honshu are characterised by cool, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Kanto, Kansai and Chubu are subtropical with moderately cold winters and wet, humid summers. Okinawa and other southern islands experience tropical weather. The rainy season starts from around the end of May and lasts until July depending on the region (except for Hokkaido, which is relatively dry during this period).
There is one time zone in the country, Japan Standard Time (+9 GMT). Summer time is not observed.
