▼About Echigo Yuzawa
The spa town of Yuzawa, where we alighted, is located in the heart of Yasunori Kawabata's snow country. The novel "Yukiguni" ("Snow Country") by the 1968 Nobel laureate depicts a lonely world cut off in winter by heavy snows, which  forces its melancholy citizens to hibernate indoors. Luckily, this snow now draws crowds of skiers and snowboarders, and winter in Yuzawa is no longer as lonely as it was when Kawabata (1899-1972) knew it.

There is 16 number of ski resorts within a 30 minutes radius of Echigo Yuzawa train station. There is an amazing variety of resorts in this area,definitely something for every one.
Access: How to get there
It is located 200Km north of Tokyo. Take bullet train (Shinkansen) from Tokyo station to Echigo Yuzawa station, which takes about 80 minutes.
Yuzawa is nestled in the Japan alps, and offers clean air and beautiful mountainous surroundings.The most nearest ski resort from Tokyo.

1. Kagura ski resort
Kagura is a large resort comprised of the Tashiro and Mitsumata areas. With 23 lifts, Kagura offers skiers an incredible 1225 metres (4019 feet) of vertical descent, with 544 acres of terrain over 23 pistes. Kagura has some gently graded slopes ideal for beginners, but is most popular domestically with intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders who come for the off-piste/backcountry terrain and the free-style parks.For snowboarders, there are two terrain parks, one for beginners and one for advanced riders, as well as a quarter pipe. Shuttle bus runs from JR Echigo Yuzawa Station to Kagura mitsumata. Approx 25 minutes by bus.

2.Gala Yuzawa
Gala Yuzawa is a popular, lively resort situated just 10 minutes from the centre of Yuzawa town. Gala is unique in that the resort provides great facilities for beginners, children and families, but in carefully separated expert areas also has an extensive terrain park with death-defying jumps, and a mogul area to test the sturdiest of knees.
Gala Yuzawa has open a new 2.5km downhill course letting you ski or snowboard down to the bottom ski center. Enjoy a downhill run of 573m vertical with fine views of the Uonuma valley to the north.
The Southern Area of the resort re-opens last season too. This area is great for those seeking a challenge and untouched powder snow.

3.NASPA Ski Garden.
NASPA Ski Garden is the family skiers-only resort. Just a few minutes from JR Echigo Yuzawa station but hidden it’s own wide space,the ski resort is located directly behind the impressive NASPA New Otani hotel and is perfectly suited to families,beginners and intermediate skiers.
